Parent Counselling: What It Is & How It Helps

At Attached Kids, we believe parents are superheroes…and even superheroes need support sometimes!

Parent counseling gives you a private and non-judgemental space (without your child present) to learn tools and feel more confident in your parenting journey. Parent sessions can run alongside your child’s therapy: while they work on their goals, you’ll learn tools to support them and have room to reflect on your own parenting experience. In fact, your therapist may recommend parent sessions as part of your child’s treatment plan.

What is Parent Counselling?
Meet one-on-one with a child and family therapist to make sense of what’s happening and what to do next. We can offer psychoeducation about your child's behaviours and strategies tailored to your child’s temperament, developmental stage, and your family’s values. We also make room for your experiences, struggles, and strengths. Come as you are—even on the “I’m done” days. Yes, we want to hear about those, too, and we’re here to support you.

What You Can Get Out of It

  • A safe space for you. Explore triggers, challenges, and wins; deepen your understanding of your parenting style, values, and goals.
  • Clarity about behaviours and symptoms. Understand what behaviours mean and how they may be connected to diagnoses (ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, etc).
  • Practical strategies for tough moments. Step-by-step coaching for meltdowns, anxiety, sleep, school refusal, screen time, and hard conversations.
  • Support through separation or divorce. Create safety and structure during change; build steady new routines.
  • Strengthen family relationships. Tools for connection, repair after conflict, and calmer communication.
  • Aligned caregiving. Get on the same page with a partner, co-parent, or other caregivers.

Why Parent Support Matters

It’s no secret that parenting isn’t always easy. You deserve a space to process, reflect, and feel supported. When parents feel well, children can feel the ripple effects. At Attached Kids, we hold parent mental well-being right alongside child and youth care. If you would like to explore next steps, reach out to schedule a free consult. Even the best superheroes have sidekicks!
